danse macabreJessica and I used to dance in the cemetery late at night in the summer darkness when the only things to see by were the broken moon and the pinpricks of brightness that dot the sky. She would lay down on the ground with her arms folded and ask me if I thought she looked pretty, and I always told her yes because she just fit laying there. See, Jessica had this real pale skin that was a background to all her bruises and these dark circles under her eyes, both things she never wanted to talk about. Her bones stuck out everywhere like a skeleton, but she said she just had some real big expectations to live up to and I knew that her food never redanse macabre

when the tears hit the floor, they twinkled like diamonds, leaving little drops of heartache all around her. they left her gasping for air while she choked on wasted time and all the words she never should have said. someone could have been there to tell her that she would be alright, to pull her hair back and calm her down, but the fates left her to be alone and learn a lesson in picking herself up off the floor.

My head floods with memories of those brown eyes, and I am drowning, trying to swim toward the sun but I am chained to the anchor, only going down.
